Before the Art
Juliet was born in Yorkshire but has lived in Nutley on the picturesque Ashdown Forest for the last 25 years. She is married with two grown-up sons. She initially trained as a bilingual secretary and worked in the power, marine and construction industries.
In 1991, on an impulse, she bought the equipment and stock from a retiring picture framer and started framing professionally.
Searching for customers, she enrolled at an art class which was run by a Royal Academy trained tutor. People were soon asking if they could buy her landscapes and the business began to grow.
And since
Juliet is passionate about the local Ashdown Forest and Sussex landscape and this forms the basis of much of her work. She has staged many successful solo exhibitions, including three for the National Trust at Standen where she has also tutored pastel workshops. Her paintings, limited edition prints and cards have found their way to homes and businesses both locally and across the globe. The addition of a series of high quality giclée prints has added substantially to her range.
Juliet regularly works with local hotels, tourist attractions and conservation groups. She is a member of the Ashdown Forest Tourism Association and Tourism South East , effectively making her a “tourist attraction”! She has also been filmed for ITV’s “Tales from the Country” with Selina Scott . Last year she staged a large exhibition with the High Weald AONB Unit, depicting several Ashdown Forest villages in “past and present“ images. At the moment she is working with Elite hotels to set up painting weekend packages at their beautiful Ashdown Park Hotel.
She still, however remains a busy picture framer and always finds there are not enough hours in a day…
